Cooking over an open flame is sacred in the Bluegrass. For generations, Kentuckians have prepared meats both on the grill and low and slow over coals, infusing them with the savory flavor of smoke, creating both a cuisine and a culture unique to our state. It’s more than just eating—it’s a feel, a way of life.
When KY BBQ SUPPLY moved in next door, I was naturally excited. Nathan Antonites, a local police officer and owner of Paducah Meal Prep, has studied BBQ and grilling his whole life. His new store opens a world of possibilities to the backyard chef. I love to grill personally and had to check it out.
We were thrilled to also shoot commercial and advertising photos for Nathan, knowing that with flame, smoke, and great food, there would be plenty of opportunity for creativity. We began in-store, showing the overall interior of the space along with highlighting individual products. One that Nathan especially liked was a grill press where the handle looks like brass knuckles. They also carry products from Weber, Northfire, Pitts & Spitts, Kamado Joe, Ooni, Summerset, Meat Church, Rockwood, Kick Ash, Pig Out BBQ, Code3spices, Pitt Barrell Cooker Co, Cornhusker Kitchen, and more. We also shot portrait photography with Nathan and his retail manager.
To show some of the products in actions, we conducted a location shoot with Nathan manning some grills. We used a red & orange gel to give the images some extra pop, ultimately combining natural light with strobes so that we could still show the flames, letting the lights and angle bring out the smoke. The result was dramatic, product photography that not only displayed the actual products but conveyed the sense of emotion that comes with their use.
The resulting collection of photos are perfect for websites, press releases for events, marketing materials, and social media posts.
While we were welcoming KY BBQ SUPPLY to the neighborhood, we were the ones treated. On location, Nathan shared some of his dry-aged ribeyes, and they were spectacular!
